Maybe the WTS' grip on JWs is not as strong as they would like it to be, especially in the face of reasonable, caring, intelligent "worldly" persons.
last week, my middle daughter, 15, found a large lump in her throat.
it was about the size of a quarter.
when she pointed it out, it was very visible.. the doctor said, after viewing the ultra-sound pics, that it was either a cyst with an unusual hardened mass inside or a carsanoma, [not sure of spelling] a cancer attached to her thyroid.
I am sure you know that when her fellow JWs find out that she is having surgery, they will flock around like flies on dung. It can be difficult for her, you and her doctors to have private conversations in a standard hospital room.
Please make arrangements to discuss the blood issue at a time and place where privacy is assured; and while it is easier to have such a meeting with primary care physicians and surgical staff, it is often more difficult to have private conversations with anesthesia. The anesthesiologists often administer blood and blood products. So, discuss ahead of time how a private meeting with anesthesia can be set-up.
Just my humble opinion based on my experience.

flicking through what seems to be the latest watchtower i noticed there's an entire article on what blood products witnesses can/not take.
my brother was at a recent hospital liaison meeting and said that the rank & file seem to find it all rather confusing.
the article does a big bit on blood extract products being a conscience matter, and then includes the 'you must not stumble your brother' principle.
Alvin A. Wolff Jr., representing Grissom's family, said cutting the aorta during what was supposed to be a bloodless surgery would be "malpractice every time. I can't imagine anything else."
How many of the surgical procedures in question has Alvin A. Wolff Jr. performed? He is an attorney, not a surgeon. He does not qualify as an expert witness.
The jury said the surgeon was 55% at fault and the family 45% at fault.

but if you sleep over together before you are married, you dont need any wittneses att al to be dfd or reeprofed, even if it is a third person ther it is an dfd thing says the elder book.enen if it is an third person ther.. why it is so important widh two wittneses to judge sexabuser, but when it comes to peopel as doing nothing only sleep over in the same department it need no wittneses att al to bad things happend to dfd them.. so you can be harder judged if you only sleep in a bed than if you rape chilrden, or sex abuse them in any way,this is not so unusal, i have among my family peopel as have been judged fore this minor thing, sleeping over widhuot doing anything, the punishment was totaly reeprof.. i have also exampel from elder as have use girls under 15 fore porniea, and the punishment was only steep down as an elder.. some very hard things to deal widh fore mee and some alse as now this.. i can also ask one more qestion, wt have told us to tell evrythnig bad we do at once, but if we hide it fore a long time, how will it effeckt the puishment?.

The WT doesn't want people to know these awful things take place within the walls of their so-called spiritual paradise.
Sandy, you are correct in your assessment. Your pain is still showing, the pain inflected by the WTS through the local elders. I am sorry that you have had to suffer at their hands. Many of us have suffered at the hands of WTS injustice in one form or another, so we are in a position to empathize with your situation.
With time and distance from WT influence, I hope that your healing can begin. It may be a long road to recovery, and certain scares will always be with you, but in my experience, the hurt does eventually fade to a more distant haze.

It is not surprising that a jury would expect a surgeon to perform flawlessly, even though every one of them has made mistakes on their job in one way or another.
It is also ironic that the suite was brought by JWs who tolerate a huge error rate from their religious leaders. Included among these errors is the tortured blood policy, an error that tolerates no error from those who are victimized by it such as this surgeon and this dead patient.
